MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the Unites States. To help women reduce their risk for heart disease, the Women’s Health Center at Community Memorial Hospital is offering free cardiac risk assessments for new patients. The assessments, for women only, will take place each Wednesday in September from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
During the cardiac risk assessment, a woman’s height and weight, body mass index, blood pressure and heart rate are obtained. There is also a finger poke to test for total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose. Nurse practitioners then spend time with each woman to discuss her test results and risk factors.
Each woman will also receive a cardiac risk folder with information on heart-healthful foods, an explanation of the numbers on the cholesterol test and ways to reduce their risk for heart disease.
