Autonomic Disorders Support Group
This support groups provides information and support to adults living with symptoms related to neurological diseases in which the autonomic nervous system ceases to function properly.

Autonomic disorders are neurological diseases in which the autonomic nervous system ceases to function properly. Some examples include small fiber neuropathy, large fiber neuropathy, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, Shy-Drager syndrome, pure autonomic failure and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Family members are welcome to attend. Meets the first Wednesday of every month at the Community Conference Center, 8700 Watertown Plank Rd.
There is no meeting in July or August.
No registration required.

Heartsaver CPR/AED For All Ages
This course is designed to teach
the skills of CPR for all individuals including adult, child and
infant.

This American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR & AED course is intended for lay rescuers. Participants may include: first responders, security guards, massage therapists, athletic trainers, day care workers, grandparents or anyone who requires documented completion of a CPR course(course completion card).
This course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for all individuals including adult, child and infant. You will learn how to use a barrier device(mask), how to help a choking victim and how to use an automated external device(AED) on an adult and child.

Childbirth & Newborn Care Series (Mon - Wed)
During your last weeks of pregnancy, thoughts and concerns center on the upcoming birth of your baby.

To help you prepare, this series of classes is offered monthly for three nights. To obtain your preference for dates, please register for classes early in your pregnancy and plan to finish the series at least four weeks before your due date. To get the full benefit of the class, it is recommended that a coach/support person attend all classes with you. A tour of the Birthing Center is included. For the first class please bring: pillows, blanket and your prenatal folder from your physician. To prepare for class, please review the booklet “Understanding Birth” which is in your prenatal folder. After attending this series participants will be able to: - Identify warning signs in the third trimester of pregnancy
- Identify signs and symptoms of true vs. false labor and be able to time contractions
- Identify when to contact their physician and come to the hospital
- Describe the stages and phases of labor
- Demonstrate comfort measures that may be used while in labor
- State routine labor care and methods of pain relief available at CMH
- Describe medical interventions that may be utilized during labor and delivery
- List reasons a cesarean section may be necessary
- Describe routine hospital care and the recovery process of mom during her hospital stay and once home
- Describe routine hospital care and recognize physical and behavioral characteristics of the newborn
- Verbalize normal feeding and sleeping patterns and waking and calming techniques for baby
- Demonstrate how to hold, swaddle, burp, and diaper baby; take an axillary temperature
- Describe the transition to parenthood and how to promote fathering

This series of four classes focuses on helping teens or single parents and their labor support persons.

The Pregnancy Support Connection facilitates and teaches this class. Topics for discussion include: - How pregnancy affects your body
- Proper nutrition and exercise during pregnancy
- When to call the doctor
- Stages of labor
- Pain management during labor, including epidurals
- C-Section birth
- Breathing and relaxation
- Postpartum changes
- Birth control
- Baby care
- Breastfeeding/Bottle-feeding baby
- Going back to work or school

This support group provides a forum for patients, family and friends to come together to learn more about polycystic kidney disease and share personal stories and discuss transplant process and current drugs and research for a cure.

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD), the most common inherited life-threatening disease, affects more than 600,000 Americans and an estimated 12.5 million people worldwide — regardless of gender, age, race or ethnic origin. PKD appears in two forms — autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which is the most common and affects one in 400 to 500 adults, and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD), which is more rare and affects one in 10,000 people at a younger age, including infants and children.
Meets the first Tuesday of the month.

Diabetes Support Group
This support group is open to people with diabetes and their family and friends.

Type 2 diabetes, or non insulin-dependent diabetes, is the most common form of diabetes. People can develop type 2 diabetes at any age - even during childhood. This form of diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which fat, muscle, and liver cells do not use insulin properly.
Meets the second Thursday of the month at the Community Conference Center, 8700 Watertown Plank Rd. No meeting in April, July, August and December.

ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Support Group
This support group is for people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families.

ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's Disease, or Motor Neuron Disease, is a chronic, progressive disease marked by gradual degeneration of the nerve cells in the central nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement. The disorder causes muscle weakness and atrophy; symptoms commonly appear in middle to late adulthood, with death in two to five years. The cause is unknown, and there is no known cure.
Meets in the Froedtert Hospital Conference Room NT2209, Froedtert North Tower, Second Floor. There is no meeting in May or December.

Childbirth Series Express (Saturday Class)
This class is a condensed version of our four-night series, and is for parents who want to attend Childbirth Education, but are having difficulties finding enough days to dedicate to a full series.

A coach/support person should attend the class with you. Plan to take the class four weeks before your due date. A tour of the Birthing Center is included. After attending this class, participants will be able to: - Identify warning signs in the third trimester of pregnancy
- Indentify signs and symptoms of true vs. false labor and be able to time contractions
- Identify when to contact their physician and come to the hospital
- Describe the stages and phases of labor
- Demonstrate comfort measures that may be used while in labor
- State routine labor care and methods of pain relief available at CMH
- Describe medical interventions that may be utilized during labor and delivery
- List reasons a cesarean section may be necessary
- Describe routine hospital care and recovery process of mom during her hospital stay and once home
- Describe routine hospital care and recognize physical and behavioral characteristics of the newborn at birth

Parkinson's Disease Caregiver Support Group
This support group is solely for spouses of people with Parkinson’s disease and/or caregiving children, friends and others.

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects the brain. The disease is characterized by a shortage of the brain chemical dopamine, which controls people's movement. The four primary symptoms of Parkinson's are tremor; rigidity or stiffness of the muscles; slowness of movement (bradykinesia); and impaired balance. These symptoms can range from very mild to severe, and can cause difficulty in walking, talking or performing everyday tasks. A psychiatric or psychological condition regardless of cause such as schizophrenia, depression, manic depressive or bipolar illness, anxiety, personality disorders and/or adjustment disorders or other conditions. These conditions are usually treated by a mental health provider or other qualified provider using psychotherapy, psychotropic drugs, or other similar methods of treatment.

Big Brother / Big Sister (Ages 2-7)
This class prepares children ages 2-7 for the arrival of a new brother or sister.

Children need to prepare for the birth of a new brother or sister. They may wonder where he/she fits in when the new baby comes. During this class, your child(ren) will have the opportunity to: - Share what they have done to prepare for the new baby
- Explain what a new baby looks like
- Verbalize three things new babies can and cannot do
- Safely touch, hold, and play with a new baby
- Verbalize three ways they can help care for the new baby
- Join in activities that will help celebrate being a big brother or big sister
- Tour the Birthing Center to see where mom is going to stay when she has the new baby
One or both parents need to stay with the child during the class. Dolls are provided at class. Cost of the class is $12 per child if delivering at CMH, $24 if delivering elsewhere. To register, contact Careconnection at 262-251-1001.

Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group
This support group is intended to serve as an educational opportunity and social experience for patients with Pulmonary Hypertension. Caregivers and/or family members are welcome.

Pulmonary Hypertension is a disease that affects the vessels that bring blood from the heart to the lungs. It is a state of constant high blood pressure in the vessels of the lungs. There is no cure for Pulmonary Hypertension, but there are treatments that can slow the progression of the disease and improve the patient’s functional status.
Meets 3rd Monday of the month from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. No meeting in January or December.
