The 12th Annual Wheeling for Healing bike ride on Saturday, August 8, 2009 was certainly one to remember, unfortunately not for the great bicycle riding. For the first time in Wheeling for Healing’s history, lightning and heavy rains forced cancellation of the ride portion of the event. But that didn’t stop the fun. The rest of the festivities were moved indoors, and many riders still enjoyed the lunch, the kids’ games, the Klement’s Racing Sausages and door prize and raffle drawings.
Over 1500 riders were registered for this year. Despite the rainout, over $45,000 was raised for the Cancer Care Center. A huge Thank You to the event’s planning committee, the participants, and all of our generous sponsors. Special appreciation is extended to our many dedicated volunteers who were flexible and helpful with the last-minute changes.
The CMH Medical Staff, Emerys Bicycle & Home Fitness Center and Trek Bicycle sponsored the Wheeling for Healing Raffle, which featured His & Hers Trek 7000 bikes, won by Brian Olstinski, a Trek 7.3FX bike won by John & Jean Mohrfeld, and an iPod Touch, won by Steve Kryscio.
