Wheeling for Healing

What a Ride!

The 14th annual Wheeling for Healing bike ride on August 13 was a great event. Young and old enjoyed the four-mile, 15-mile and 33-mile routes which started and ended at Community Memorial Hospital. Upon returning to the hospital, riders enjoyed brunch, raffles, kids’ games and the toe-tapping music of the band Phat Side Down.

There were nearly 1,100 riders registered for the event this year, and approximately $35,000 was raised for the Cancer Care Center at Community Memorial Hospital. Thank you to the event’s planning committee, the riders, all sponsors, our numerous dedicated volunteers, and community support staff including officers from the Menomonee Falls Police Department and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department. Dan Needles, Sports Director from WISN-TV did a great job again this year as the Wheeling for Healing ride marshal.

Team involvement is always an integral part of Wheeling for Healing. The largest team was from Immanuel Lutheran Church of Brookfield with 72 riders. The second largest team was William H. Hermann Team with 41 riders, and the third largest was Amy’s Team with 30 riders. Congratulations to all teams who participated this year! It’s never too soon to start talking with your co-workers, friends and family to form a team for next year.

The Wheeling for Healing raffle was again a popular feature of the event. The first prize of an iPad, sponsored by the Community Memorial Medical Staff, was won by Kelly Wilburn; the second place prize of a Microsoft Office and Windows 7 software package, donated by Microsoft Corporation, was won by Shelly Waala; and the third place prize of four Milwaukee Brewers tickets was won by Gary Gliscinski.

A special thank you goes out to all who raised additional funds from friends, family and neighbors. Thank you for your efforts and support!

Over the last 14 years, Wheeling for Healing has raised $400,000 for the Cancer Care Center. The Foundation would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to everyone who has played a role in this event’s continued success.

The 15th annual Wheeling for Healing bike ride is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 11, 2012. We look forward to seeing you there!
