Breastfeeding can be a wonderful bonding experience for a mother and her baby. However, most new moms—and some experienced moms, too—need help learning how to successfully breastfeed. Our board-certified lactation consultants have contact with every Birthing Center patient after delivery to ensure she feels comfortable breastfeeding. The lactation consultants use evidence-based practices to help mothers with problems such as latching, low or high milk supply and pain while nursing, and make follow-up phone calls to every mother after discharge.
The lactation consultants also teach a breastfeeding class for expectant mothers and are available for outpatient visits after patients are discharged.

Our staff includes board-certified Medical College of Wisconsin perinatologists who are experts in their field. The perinatologists see patients at Community Memorial for regular office visits and to perform diagnostic tests. They are also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for pregnant women who need immediate treatment.
When newborns need special care, our board-certified Medical College of Wisconsin neonatologists are there for them. The neonatologists, who are experts in caring for Community Memorial’s tiniest patients, are available in the Newborn Special Care Unit 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Mothers can buy or rent breastfeeding pumps and other equipment from the Birthing Center.
Community Memorial offers physical therapy services for women who are experiencing pain or discomfort during pregnancy or postpartum.
