Community Programs

The best emergency care is emergency prevention. Education is the key to preventing many emergency situations. For this reason, Community Memorial Hospital offers a range of programs for every age group. To schedule any of these programs, contact Injury Prevention Coordinator Robin Ihde, RN, BSN, CEN, at (262) 257-3103. There is no cost for these programs.

Keeping You and Your Family Safe

This program is for everyone. Home safety is heavily emphasized, making this program useful for homeowner and condominium associations as well as church, school and other groups. The program covers safety items such as smoke detectors and security systems, deterring burglars from targeting your home, and tips for winter living and winter driving safety.

This program covers many topics, including:


Dare to Care

This program is for teens, college students and adults. The Dare to Care program increases knowledge and awareness about the traumatic results of drinking and driving, the consequences of not using seat belts and the lifetime impact these behaviors have on families and others. The Dare to Care program is presented by trained Emergency Department Registered Nurses in a 45-minute interactive slide show format.

A slide projector and VCR are required.


Learning to Care

This program is for third through fifth grade students. As these children approach the age of greatest potential for using drugs, the Learning to Care program gives them a reason to say "no" when their peers begin experimentation with these substances. The Learning to Care program is presented by trained Emergency Department Registered Nurses in a 45-minute interactive slide presentation that discusses:

There is also discussion about decision making, peer pressure and alternatives to drugs and alcohol such as hobbies and organized sports.

Take Care

This program is for adults age 55 and older. The Take Care program focuses on the safe use of medication, alcohol and driving, medication interaction, pedestrian safety and the importance of using seat belts. The program is designed to increase knowledge and awareness about the effects of alcohol and drugs. The Take Care program is presented by trained Emergency Department Registered Nurses in a 45-minute interactive slide show.

A slide projector and VCR are required.


Bike and Helmet Safety

This program is to educate children, parents and caretakers about bicycle safety, practices and proper helmet use. The program is presented by trained Emergency Department Registered Nurses.


Child Alert — An Emergency Response Program

The Child Alert program is designed to help parents and guardians assure that their children, teenagers and young adults with special health needs get the best possible emergency care from their community's emergency medical service providers. Children with special health care needs are at risk for requiring emergency care. Emergency medical personnel who are aware of children with special health care needs and the nature of their condition before an emergency occurs are able to respond quickly and more efficiently when an emergency call is received. The service is provided by a trained Emergency Department Registered Nurse Child Alert Coordinator.


Gun Safety

This program is to increase knowledge and awareness of gun safety with current, comprehensive and effective information. It promotes the correct and consistent use of trigger locks and other gun safety equipment.
