The nurse practitioner services in the Women’s Health Center strive to treat the patient’s body, mind and spirit through integrative medicine. Our unique, longer appointments give us the necessary time to discover the underlying cause behind symptoms and disease. Our services include:
A teen’s first physical and Pap test are a big step toward womanhood, but can sometimes be intimidating. We offer a calm, quiet environment and atmosphere for these first tests. Our nurse practitioner takes the time to put girls at ease and explain the significance of the tests. We also offer diagnosis and treatment for any menstruation problems teenage girls be experiencing.
If you are planning on having a baby, it is important that you are in good health prior to conceiving. Our nurse practitioner knows the right questions to ask to determine whether there are health issues you need to address before becoming pregnant, and provide you with family planning information. If you do not want to become pregnant, she can provide you with birth control options, as well.
As women age, their health needs change. Perimenopause, or the physiological stage women go through when they are approaching menopause, can begin as much as 10 years prior to menopause, and can be equally uncomfortable. Menopause, the transition from a woman’s reproductive years to her non-reproductive years, may cause physical and emotional changes in women. But there are many treatment options for both phases. We offer a unique approach to treating symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.
Osteoporosis: This medical condition, in which the bones become brittle and fragile due to loss of tissue, can be devastating for women. If you diagnose osteoporosis early, however, you may be able to take the proper steps to slow its progress. These steps include taking in more vitamin D and starting an exercise routine that includes weight-bearing activities. We can perform a bone density screening to determine whether you are at risk for osteoporosis and, if you have had significant bone loss, help you make the necessary lifestyle changes.
Depression: While medication can be an effective way to combat depression, there are other ways to fight this disorder’s lingering effects, as well. We offer many integrative medicine approaches to treating depression, including herbal remedies, meditation, aromatherapy and relaxation techniques.
Bladder and pelvic issues: Many women suffer from incontinence, pelvic pain, or weakness or lack of support in the bladder and pelvic region. We provide assessment of these problems and, if needed, a referral to our Women’s Pelvic Health Center.
